(ANSA) - Milan, March 14 - The Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia is continuing to establish contacts with members of the political world in Lombardy and clan meetings were held in two Milan hospitals, police said after 35 suspected mafiosi were arrested Monday.
During the last regional elections, said prosecutor Ilda Boccassini, a leading clan decided to lend its weight to a candidate from Premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom party, Antonella Maiolo.
Maiolo, who is said to have had two meetings with clan bosses, is not under investigation, the prosecutor stressed.
High-level administrative officials at the Niguarda and Galeazzi hospitals put offices at the disposal of clans, Boccassini added.
The officials are not under investigation, she said.
